Animal bookends

This is a creative and very easy way to make your own cute bookends!

1. Penguin

You will need:

  • Gray socks
  • Light pink felt
  • Googly eyes (from Poundland)
  • Yellow felt
  • Clear elastics
  • Rice
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun/glue
  • Bottle (to pour the rice)

First, pour the rice into a bottle to make it easier to pour into the sock.

Pour it in the sock (about 1,5 kg) and tie the top with a clear elastic.

Cut off the top close to the clear elastic tie and shape the head and secure it with an elastic.

Cut out an oval shape from the light pink felt that fits the stomach of the penguin and glue it on.

Cut out a small triangle for the beak out of the yellow felt.

Glue the triangle in the middle of the face and glue on the googly eyes.

2. Owl

You will need:

  • Gray socks
  • Blue felt
  • Yellow felt
  • Glue gun
  • White paper/felt
  • Sharpie
  • White paint
  • Scissors
  • Clear elastics

Repeat the steps the previous steps, bu slightly alter the shape so the body is shorter and rounder and the head should be bigger. Also i left the excess on the top be as it added a certain character.

Cut out an oval shape as the previous design to fit the stomach of the owl, but also cut out two circles and a triangle as shown below.

Cut out smaller circles from white paper/felt and draw a pupil inside with a black marker. Use the white paint to add a small dot of white to create depth in the eyes. Then, cut out the shape of an upside down teardrop from the yellow felt.

Glue everything on with the glue gun.

Use the white paint to add a wave-like pattern to the body of the owl and you are finished.
