This is a handy and affordable way to reuse and old shoe box with things you probably have lying around.
You will need:
- A shoe box (or similar)
- Pieces of cardboard
- Transparent A4 sheet (I used the cover of an unused plastic folder)
- Decoupage glue
- Paint brush
- Glue gun
- Serviettes/tissue paper
- Tapestry knife
First, mark the hole on the top of the box with a ruler and pencil to make the cut as neat as possible. then use the tapestry knife to cut out a square hole in the lid.
If you use a brightly coloured box such as this one it can be smart to cover the whole box and the inside with a neutral colour.
Cover the whole inside and outside with decoupage glue leaving out the lid, and fasten the preferred serviette or tissue paper. Coat the top of the serviette after to set it and let it dry completely.
Cut the transparent sheet to fit the inside of the lid and use the glue gun to fasten it on the inside, making a see-through lid for the box.
Cut three pieces of cardboard to fit inside the box and paint them. Let them dry and glue them with equal spaces to the inside of the box.
Cut eight smaller pieces to fit between the three long pieces, and paint them the same colour. (Tips: if you cut these to an exact fit you do not need glue and you can move them around to fit differently sized objects!)
Optional: Paint the outside and inside of the lid the same colour as the inside pieces.
Now you have a box to put anything from makeup and hair ties to bolts and nuts.
